Revolutionary hip-hop

Today in a world full of artists who are “puppets” of the major record-labels, underground hip-hop artists remain true to themselves, and their love of music. A huge genre of the underground is revolutionary hip-hop. These artists express their views and ideologies through their music, in hopes to expose the lies we have been told and for people to open their eyes to the truth. Some of my favorite artists include in this genre include: Immortal Technique, Sabac, Revolution of the Mind, Lowkey,Dead Prez, Prince ea, Diabolic, and Jedi Mind Tricks. Whenever I listen to a track by one of these artists, I can feel their passion for their music and their message radiating from the track. In a world where people conform and do as they told, these artists resist the pressure to sign to major record labels, which would possibly lead to them “selling out”. For example, Immortal Technique has been offered to be signed numerous times, but always turns down the contracts. He believes the industry screws the artists, tells them how to appear/act, and they do not earn very much for their hard work. Technique started his own record label, Viper Records, and has many artists signed. We can all learn from these artists, by what they stand for. They stand for: speaking your mind, not conforming under pressure, forming your own opinions/ideologies, standing up for your rights, and living life with an open mind. In a world full of corruption, poverty and disease, we need open mind thinkers we stand up for their rights, and rise despite the shackles of the system.
